Mace lambasts Charleston airport for its security after alleged tirade

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) voiced her concerns over the security operations at Charleston International Airport (CHS) following a police report that claimed she lashed out at officers with strong language last Thursday.

During a Monday morning segment on Fox Business, Mace expressed frustration, stating that the officers failed to meet her on time for her airport arrival.

“The handling of airport security is a critical matter, and we cannot accept subpar performance or security lapses,” remarked Mace, who is actively campaigning for the governorship in South Carolina.

The police report from the Charleston County Aviation Authority indicated that officers were instructed to meet Mace, arriving in a white BMW, at 6:30 a.m. EDT near the ticketing area. They were then supposed to escort her to her departing flight.

However, around 6:35 a.m. EDT, officers were updated that Mace was running approximately 15 minutes late. Shortly before 7 a.m. EDT, the dispatch relayed that Mace had reached the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Known Crewmember entrance.

Once the officers arrived at that entrance, Mace “immediately began loudly cursing and making derogatory comments to us and about the department,” the report states. Mace allegedly added that the officers were “f—ing incompetent” and that “this is no way to treat a f—ing U.S. Representative.”

Mace proceeded to board her flight to O’Hare International Airport at roughly 7:10 a.m. EDT, and departed at around 7:30 a.m. EDT.

Later that Monday morning, Mace posted messages between members of her staff and CHS security to the social platform X, saying that if the airport “continues to lie, we will continue to expose the lies.”

According to the messages, on Wednesday, a member of her staff informed security that Mace would be arriving at roughly 6:30 a.m. EDT at CHS in a silver BMW. At 6:29 a.m. EDT on the day of her flight, another staffer informed security that the congresswoman would arrive within 10 to 15 minutes, with an officer noting the change five minutes later.

Shortly thereafter, the second staffer said that Mace was waiting at the TSA entrance, with another officer responding that they were “trying to get it taken care of.”

Later in the morning, after Mace boarded her flight, the staffer informed the second officer that they had “dropped her at the center doors” and that they had arrived in a silver BMW.

In a separate chat, an officer said security “had everything setup for her to have someone waiting when she arrived” and that they were “not sure what happened.”

The Hill has reached out to CHS for comment.
