HEPHZIBAH, Ga. () – AARP Georgia is teaming up with local groups and law enforcement to offer a complimentary community event aimed at combating fraud this Saturday.
The event, dubbed “Scam Jam,” is scheduled to take place on November 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Diamond Lakes – Robert Howard Community Center, located at 103 Diamond Lakes Way, Hephzibah.
Participants will gain insights into identifying and avoiding various scams that AARP highlights as common threats to Georgians. This includes investment scams, online shopping fraud, classified ad deceptions, lottery and prize scams, tech support frauds, and romance scams. Additionally, attendees can take advantage of free on-site document shredding to securely dispose of sensitive information and safeguard against identity theft.
“Fraud is an escalating concern that can affect anyone,” remarked Adrion Bell, a spokesperson for AARP Georgia. “By uniting as a community, we can enhance awareness, share resources, and empower residents to stay a step ahead of scammers.”
Expect representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Legal Services, SRP Federal Credit Union, Better Business Bureau, Richmond County Marshal’s Office, Area Agency on Aging, Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, First Community Bank, and Oak Street Health Augusta to be in attendance.
