Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a late-night incident, 20-year-old Kiarah Geneva Brown found herself in police custody after an altercation with an officer during a routine traffic stop.

Around 10:13 p.m. on November 2, a Gainesville Police Department officer pulled over Brown on SW 6th Street, citing a window tint that exceeded legal limits. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer claimed to detect the scent of marijuana, and Brown admitted she did not possess a medical marijuana card. Both front and rear side windows were reportedly darker than allowed.

When asked to exit her vehicle, Brown allegedly refused multiple requests. The officer informed her that the directive was lawful, yet she continued to resist. Despite being warned that she would be physically removed, Brown reportedly did not comply, even after five additional verbal commands.

Subsequently, the officer forcibly extracted Brown from her car, during which she allegedly attempted to shut the driver’s door on him repeatedly. As the officer tried to handcuff her, Brown reportedly resisted by tensing her body and attempting to flee. She allegedly struck the officer’s face, prompting him to respond with a defensive strike while maintaining his grip. Brown reportedly kicked at the officer, used her body to push against him, and made threats, indicating her growing anger.

Additional officers arrived and helped take Brown into custody.

A probable cause search of Brown’s vehicle reportedly produced about 8.2 grams of marijuana.

Brown has been charged with battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana; she was also cited for a window tint violation. She has no criminal history, and Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
