On Tuesday, Albuquerque’s voters will head to the polls with a significant decision on their hands: whether to grant Mayor Tim Keller a third term or to usher in a new leader from among his five challengers. The outcome will determine the direction of the city for the next four years.

The race features a diverse group of candidates eager to take the helm. Competing against Keller are Mayling Armijo, a small business owner; Eddie Varela, a retired firefighter; Alex Uballez, the former U.S. Attorney for New Mexico; Louie Sanchez, a current City Councilor; and Darren White, the former Bernalillo County Sheriff. Each candidate brings unique perspectives and experiences to the table.

In a race that remains non-partisan, if no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote, the election will advance to a runoff between the two top candidates, scheduled for December 9. This ensures that the eventual winner will have a clear mandate from the electorate.

Mayor Keller, seeking another term, has garnered significant support from influential labor organizations, including endorsements from the Teamsters and the AFL-CIO of New Mexico. These endorsements could play a pivotal role in swaying voters in his favor.

Keller has received considerable endorsements from labor unions including Teamsters and the AFL-CIO of New Mexico.

During the sole televised debate, candidates debated crime, homelessness, the economy and immigration. Keller defended his public safety policies as mayor, pointing to gunshot and license plate readers throughout the city. Other candidates, however, criticized Keller for using the National Guard to combat crime in the city. The mayor insisted that the Guard was working in conjunction with the governor and local police.

Polls will close in New Mexico at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday. Follow along with election results in the Albuquerque mayoral race in the tracker below:
