In a harrowing case from Texas, a man faces murder charges following the death of his roommate, who tragically perished in an RV fire in Amarillo last week.

James (Jaime) Sosa’s lifeless body was discovered on October 27 after firefighters managed to put out the early morning blaze, as reported by KVII. According to court records, evidence suggested that Sosa was alive during the fire, with soot discovered in his trachea and airways.

Documents from the court reveal that 46-year-old Luis Angel Rico informed first responders that he believed his roommate might be in the RV and mentioned lighting a candle. However, investigators noted inconsistencies, observing soot on Rico’s hands and detecting a gasoline odor, despite his initial denial of involvement in starting the fire.

Rico recounted being in the RV between 1 and 2:30 a.m. while Sosa was in his room, watching TV on his phone. He claimed to have left and upon returning around 5 a.m., saw smoke, prompting him to head to a friend’s place to call 911. However, he returned when he heard sirens.

Investigators contradicted Rico’s account, finding traces of an accelerant on his right pants leg, coat sleeve, and shoes, raising further suspicion.

Rico is being held in the Potter County Jail without bond, Law&Crime reported.
