A serious altercation in Florida has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man accused of wielding a hunting knife against his own father and threatening the lives of four children. This alarming incident unfolded when Trevor Nieves-Gonzalez reportedly stabbed his father in the back of the head, a confrontation that escalated to a dangerous level.

Nieves-Gonzalez now faces multiple charges: two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of child abuse, and one count of resisting an officer with violence. The charges highlight the severity of the situation that took place in the otherwise quiet neighborhood of Deltona.

The sequence of events began to unravel around 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday, as deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from a residence on E. Fowler Drive. The call came from the victim himself, who urgently informed 911 dispatchers that his son had just attacked him. This information was documented in a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

Upon arrival, body camera footage captured by the sheriff’s office reveals the tense moments as a deputy approached the scene with his firearm ready. In the footage, Nieves-Gonzalez’s father is seen trying to protectively stand between the officer and his son, who was still armed with the knife, disregarding police commands to disarm.

“Sir, you need outta the f—ing way,” the officer is heard urging, in a bid to de-escalate the volatile situation. The video evidence underscores the precariousness of the encounter, illustrating the challenges law enforcement faces in such high-stakes situations.

“Sir, you need outta the f—ing way,” the deputy said as the suspect ignored commands to drop the knife. “Please.”

“Please don’t shoot my son,” the father begged, urging the deputy to use a Taser instead.

“I’m not gonna shoot him if he drops the knife,” the deputy responded.

Eventually, Nieves-Gonzalez slammed down the knife and his dad moved out of the way. Nieves-Gonzalez allegedly spit on a cop and yelled “Kill me.” A deputy deployed his Taser which incapacitated Nieves-Gonzalez and he was taken into custody.

The father suffered a stab wound to the back of the head as well as a swollen right eye from being punched, deputies noted. He said his son had been drinking that morning while they were working in the front yard. At some point, Nieves-Gonzalez’s necklace broke, which set him off. He allegedly began punching his father and went inside where he armed himself with the hunting knife.

Nieves-Gonzalez sliced the back of his father’s head and broke multiple items inside the home, per cops. He then allegedly pointed the knife at four children ranging in age from 2 to 11.

“I’ll kill these kids, too,” the suspect stated, according to the affidavit.

He was taken to the Volusia County Jail where he is being held on a $90,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 4.
