Hard-hitting A-Rod documentary directed by ‘massive Red Sox fan’

The authenticity of the new Alex Rodriguez docuseries can be traced back to its director, an ardent Red Sox enthusiast.

At the premiere of the three-part HBO Max series, “Alex vs. ARod,” insiders revealed to Page Six that co-director Gotham Chopra, known for his strong allegiance to the Red Sox, has historically not been fond of the Yankees—particularly A-Rod. Despite this, Rodriguez placed his trust in Chopra to tell his story.

Spanning 12 seasons, Rodriguez, now 50, was a pivotal player for the New York Yankees.

Another attendee shared that Rodriguez managed to win over the Boston-raised director during the project’s development.

This docuseries is a creation of Religion of Sports, an organization co-founded by Chopra, alongside NFL legends and broadcasters Tom Brady and Michael Strahan. Chopra, the son of the renowned new-age guru Deepak Chopra, brings his unique perspective and expertise to the film.

Brady and Strahan were among guests at the premiere, along with former Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber, plus the team’s announcers Michael Kay and Suzyn Waldman, A-Rod’s Minnesota Timberwolves business partner Marc Lore, Kevin Durant’s longtime agent Rich Kleiman, and Rodriguez’s entire family.

We hear that during a Q&A at the NYC screening, there was a humorous moment when the former third baseman was asked a “touchy feely” question, we hear, and he responded, “I am in this doc, but you should not be listening to me for mental health advice, please, please please.”

Said a spy, “It was very funny.”

The warts and all story — which debuts Nov. 6 and was co-directed by Erik LeDrew — is being called a raw and authentic look at the polarizing baseball legend.

We hear that HBO exec were “gushing that this one of the top docs they’ve ever created.”

“It’s a side of Alex we’ve never seen,” said a pal of the hard-hitting project.
