GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old man, Treyvion Sincere Murphy, was taken into custody early this morning following allegations of discharging a firearm in a public area along the 1800 block of Williston Road. In addition, Murphy faces charges of firearm possession as a convicted felon.

According to a detective from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Murphy visited a victim’s home on November 3, despite being under community control, which restricts him to his residence except for brief periods around work hours or sanctioned events.

The detective’s report details an incident around 6:43 p.m. where an argument erupted between Murphy and the victim. After the altercation, Murphy is said to have left the residence, crossed the street, and brandished a handgun. He allegedly warned the victim not to approach, cocking the weapon, which prompted her to retreat inside. Subsequently, she reported hearing a gunshot and contacted the authorities. Murphy had reportedly vacated the scene by the time officers arrived.

While investigators could not find any evidence of bullet impact, they did recover a shell casing near the spot where Murphy was seen with the firearm. The detective determined that Murphy should face an aggravated assault charge due to his deliberate display and handling of the gun, which instilled fear in the victim for her safety.

Murphy reportedly sent a text message to the victim after he left, asking her not to call the police. He was arrested at a residence at about 12:51 a.m. on November 4.

Murphy has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has a juvenile conviction in 2024 and two adult felony convictions (one violent); on June 5, 2025, Judge James Colaw sentenced him to one year of community control, followed by two years of probation after Murphy entered pleas of nolo contendere to battery by a person detained in a jail and possession of contraband (candy) in a juvenile detention facility. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $125,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
