CORONA, Queens (PIX11) – Following his surprising triumph in the New York City mayoral race, mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is set to deliver his first post-election speech to the public on Wednesday morning.

The democratic socialist will address the city from the iconic Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, located in the very borough where he previously served as an assemblymember.

At just 34 years old, Mamdani makes history as the youngest mayor elected in New York City in more than 100 years and marks a milestone as the city’s first Muslim mayor.

Mamdani secured his victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, running on a platform centered around affordability, free public transportation, universal child care, and a rent freeze for stabilized housing units.

In his victory speech on Tuesday, Mamdani expressed gratitude to the younger generations of New Yorkers and committed to ushering in a new era for the city.

“Because of you, we will make this city one that working people can love and live in again,” he said.
