A former morning news anchor is now facing serious legal trouble, having been charged with the murder of her 81-year-old mother in Kansas.

Angelynn Mock, aged 47, appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday. She stands accused of first-degree murder for allegedly killing her mother, Anita Ayers, with intent, premeditation, and unlawfulness, according to ABC News.

Marc Bennett, the Sedgwick County District Attorney, confirmed that the charge came after reviewing the investigation conducted by the Wichita Police Department’s homicide unit, as reported by News Nation.

According to Wichita police, Ayers was discovered “unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds” at a residence on the 1500 block of East Crowley in Wichita, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

Emergency personnel transported Ayers to St. Francis Hospital, but she unfortunately passed away from her injuries.

Anita Avers had multiple stab wounds to her, as far as her upper body, her face. The specific areas haven’t been released just yet,” reporter and host of “Killer Genes” podcast, Melissa McCarty, told Nancy Grace on Tuesday’s “Crime Stories.”

A neighbor told KAKE that a woman covered in blood, later identified as Mock, ran up to her boyfriend on October 31, and asked to use his phone to call 911.

“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Alyssa Castro said.

“I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shooken up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off.”

When police arrived at the scene, they found the defendant with cuts on her hand. They also found the phone and returned it to Castro’s boyfriend.

Mock went to the hospital for treatment before being booked into the Sedgewick County jail.

Mock worked as a news anchor and reporter for multiple stations in Oklahoma City, according to what she wrote on her LinkedIn profile.

Avers’ husband told KAKE that she worked at Wichita Counseling Professionals as a marriage and family therapist.

Mock remains behind bars on $1 million bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 14.
