Several firefighters sustained injuries following a dramatic vehicle explosion on Wednesday evening in New York City, a police representative informed Fox News Digital.

The explosion originated from a car at 7:13 p.m. in a neighborhood that blends residential and commercial spaces in the Bronx, specifically around Fox Street and Westchester Avenue, according to officials.

Authorities confirmed that three firefighters from the FDNY were taken to nearby hospitals and are in stable condition. However, initial reports from the New York Post suggested that a total of six responders suffered injuries.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment flames erupted near what seemed to be a white commercial van. Just moments later, a powerful explosion unleashed a massive fireball, sending thick smoke billowing several stories high into the night sky.

Multiple smaller explosions were also caught on camera, lighting up the night with electrical sparks into the night sky with sharp popping sounds.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear.

The fire was reportedly under control by 8:19 p.m. NYPost added, citing the authorities. 

Police say this is an ongoing incident.
