In Louisiana, two parents are now facing serious charges of murder and abuse following the tragic death of their infant daughter, just two months old.
Authorities have arrested Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard after securing warrants in connection to the incident. This comes shortly after the couple’s baby was found unresponsive.
According to a statement from the police, emergency services were called to a home on October 25, where they attempted to save the child before rushing her to a hospital. Unfortunately, the baby was later pronounced dead. Investigators discovered that the child had endured multiple injuries, including a severed lower spine and broken ribs, along with evidence of prolonged malnutrition and dehydration.
Following these findings, Fontenot and Broussard were charged with first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery.
Fontenot was quickly detained, but Broussard evaded capture for several days. He eventually turned himself in and was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on November 3.
“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse. This case is in its early stages, and our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail,” Opelousas police chief Graig LeBlanc said in a statement after Broussard’s surrender. “We ask the public for patience, cooperation, and assistance in helping us pursue justice.”
