ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — In an effort to address extensive infrastructure damage caused by Hurricanes Milton and Helene, St. Pete Beach Mayor Adrian Petrila has suggested implementing tolls at key entry points to the barrier island. The proposed tolls would be imposed on tourists, with exemptions for local business owners, employees, and residents.
During a city commission meeting on Monday, Mayor Petrila emphasized the urgent need for funding, stating, “The city needs roughly $200 million to restore our infrastructure to a fully operational state.” The toll initiative is a component of a broader strategy aimed at generating revenue to repair and enhance seawalls, stormwater systems, sewer pipes, and other critical infrastructure.
