The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for certain ice cream bars distributed across multiple states, including Pennsylvania. This announcement was made to ensure consumer safety and awareness.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. is recalling specific Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars due to the potential presence of undeclared wheat, according to the FDA’s notice. This recall is a precautionary measure to prevent any adverse reactions among consumers with wheat allergies.

The impacted Häagen-Dazs bars are packaged in 6-count boxes, identifiable by batch code LLA519501 and a Best By date of January 31, 2027. Consumers who have purchased these items should check for these specific details to determine if their purchase is affected.

The recalled ice cream bars were distributed to two major retail chains, Kroger and Giant Eagle, across several states. This distribution information is crucial for consumers to verify where they may have bought the product.

  • Kroger: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming
  • Giant Eagle: Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia

Thankfully, there have been no reports of any injuries or illnesses linked to the undeclared wheat in these products. The FDA also confirmed that no other Häagen-Dazs products are impacted by this recall.

“Although our investigation is ongoing, we believe products containing wheat were repacked into the incorrect packaging at the beginning of a production run,” the company said in its recall notice.

If you have a wheat allergy or a sensitivity to wheat, you are advised not to eat the ice cream bars impacted by the recall. Instead, the notice says you should throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund.
