Firefighters reported that over 20 emergency units tackled the blaze from both terrestrial and aerial positions. Fortunately, Erik Spoelstra was not at his residence when the incident began.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — A severe fire inflicted significant damage on the Coral Gables home of Miami Heat’s head coach, Erik Spoelstra, early Thursday. Officials confirmed no injuries occurred, and Spoelstra was away at the time the fire ignited.

The Miami-Dade County fire department received the alarm at approximately 4:36 a.m. Spoelstra and his team had been in Denver for a game on Wednesday night, and their flight to Miami touched down at 5:11 a.m.

Upon landing, Spoelstra quickly made his way to the scene, where multiple fire teams were actively working to control the flames. Despite smoke lingering over parts of the property hours after the first responders arrived, fire officials managed to contain the situation by late morning.

Officials confirmed that the fire remained confined to Spoelstra’s property, with no damage reported to neighboring homes. The response involved more than 20 units, utilizing both ground and aerial strategies to combat the fire.

Property records show Spoelstra bought the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in December 2023.
