The confrontation reportedly began when Humphrey attempted to acquire a box of cigarettes, promising to pay for them at a later time. According to authorities, when the 70-year-old store clerk denied her request, Humphrey’s demeanor quickly shifted to one of agitation. The clerk asked her to leave the premises, but she refused and allegedly brandished a nail clipper, gesturing as though she intended to stab him.

As tensions escalated, Humphrey allegedly maneuvered behind the counter, seizing a carton of cigarettes while continuing to threaten the clerk with the chilling words, “You will die.” The clerk, understandably fearing for his safety, managed to reclaim the cigarettes even as Humphrey purportedly charged at him with the nail clipper.

Law enforcement officials reviewed the criminal complaint, which detailed the alarming sequence of events. It ultimately led to Humphrey’s arrest on Tuesday, highlighting the bizarre and dangerous nature of the confrontation that left the clerk shaken but unharmed.

The clerk told police that he feared for his safety, but after Humphrey allegedly “charged” at him wielding the nail clipper, he was able to take back the cigarettes. At one point during the alleged altercation, Humphrey told the clerk, “You will die.”

Police arrived at the Sedano’s after other shoppers surrounded Humphrey to prevent her from leaving the store. She was promptly arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a person older than 65, armed robbery, and petit theft.

Humphrey is currently in custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she is being held on $15,001 bond.
