A man has been charged after a tradie was stabbed while trying to perform a citizen’s arrest in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.

In the early hours around 6 a.m., a concerning incident unfolded near Melbourne Central. A man, reportedly brandishing a knife, was spotted behaving erratically as he sprinted through a parking area on Lonsdale Street, according to police reports.

Witnessing the commotion, two tradesmen immediately sprang into action. They pursued the man down Elizabeth Street, ultimately managing to bring him to the ground near the intersection with Lonsdale Street.

The knife-wielding man was tackled on the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets about 6am. (Nine)

The tradesmen’s quick response proved crucial as they restrained the 32-year-old man from Dallas until police officers arrived just three minutes later to take him into custody.

Unfortunately, during the altercation, one of the tradesmen, a 41-year-old from Maddingley, sustained a stab wound to his lower body. He was promptly transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he received treatment for injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other tradie, a 35-year-old Sanctuary Lakes man, was uninjured.

The 32-year-old Dallas man has been charged with affray, recklessly causing injury, and using a controlled weapon without excuse.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight.
