An Ohio man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to kill a woman and her child, then requesting a low bail by citing his status as an expectant father.

James Blackwell, 25, has been charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated menacing, according to records from the Youngstown Municipal Court. These charges were officially lodged against him on Wednesday.

The incident began on Monday at around 5 p.m. in Youngstown, Ohio. A woman driving near Pasadena Avenue and South Avenue reportedly encountered Blackwell, who immediately recognized her. “Where is my money?” he allegedly shouted, prompting her to drive away, as reported by local CBS affiliate WKBN.

Undeterred, Blackwell is accused of pursuing the woman and her child for several blocks until she came to a stop. At that point, Blackwell reportedly exited his vehicle, approached her, and issued threats to kill both her and her child, according to the local news outlet.

When the woman protested against his threats, Blackwell allegedly pulled her from her vehicle and choked her until she lost consciousness. He is also accused of puncturing two of her tires, flattening them, before forcing the woman and her child into his own vehicle. The woman managed to escape and contact emergency services, leading to Blackwell’s arrest while he was still in his car.

Court records also show Blackwell currently faces gun and drug charges from this past July. He was released on a $15,000 bond in that case. As Blackwell appeared in court for this week’s charges, he asked for a low bond, explaining to the judge that he is about to become a father, per WKBN.

The defendant was given a $120,000 bond. His next court date is on Dec. 1.
