GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In a tense standoff this afternoon, law enforcement officers sought to serve a felony arrest warrant on Ali Bayhan, 38, accused of making terroristic threats. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, converged on a residence in the 1400 block of NW 35th Way, where Bayhan was believed to be staying.

Authorities utilized a public address system to urge Bayhan to surrender peacefully. Emerging from the residence, Bayhan had a handgun visibly tucked into his waistband and disregarded officers’ commands. Events escalated rapidly when Bayhan allegedly reached for the weapon. In response, officers discharged their service weapons, fatally wounding Bayhan.

Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene immediately, and officers attempted to provide medical assistance. Despite these efforts, Bayhan was declared dead at the location.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the use of deadly force by deputies.

The deputies involved in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with ASO policy.
