Several U.S. servicemembers at Joint Base Andrews encountered a suspicious package on Thursday afternoon, leading to reports of headaches and subsequent medical evaluations on the base, according to U.S. officials who spoke with Fox News.

Fortunately, all those affected were deemed stable and were discharged after their check-ups. Investigations revealed no hazardous materials at the site, Fox News reported.

Joint Base Andrews plays a pivotal role as it houses Air Force One along with other aircraft crucial for transporting the president, vice president, and senior U.S. leaders.

In response to the discovery of the package, a spokesperson informed Fox News that, as a safety measure, the concerned building and an adjoining structure were evacuated. They established a secure perimeter around the area. First responders from Joint Base Andrews swiftly arrived at the scene, verified there were no immediate threats, and allowed normal operations to continue. An investigation into the incident is still underway.

“As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News. “Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and normal operations have resumed. An investigation is currently ongoing.”
