Stay Informed: Moultrie Co. EMA Alerts Residents About Upcoming First Responder 'Active Threat' Training

MOULTRIE COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Residents in Moultrie County should be aware that local first responders will engage in an “Active Threat Response” exercise this weekend. The County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has assured the public that there is no genuine threat to public safety during this time.

According to a Facebook announcement by the Moultrie County EMA, a comprehensive Active Threat Response drill is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at around 1 p.m. at the Hydro-Gear facility in Sullivan. This collaborative event involves both Moultrie County first responders and the Hydro-Gear team.

The purpose of this exercise is to assess the emergency response and operational readiness of law enforcement and emergency medical services. Officials highlighted that this simulated scenario will help first responders and command staff to collaborate effectively, identifying both strengths and potential areas for improvement.

During the exercise, the EMA noted that local residents might observe emergency vehicles, personnel, and hear alarms. For the duration of the training, access to the Hydro-Gear facility and nearby traffic routes may be restricted or redirected to ensure safety and facilitate the drill.

“Please note, this is a planned event and there is NO ACTUAL THREAT to the public,” Moultrie County EMA said in its Facebook post. “Thank you all for your cooperation and support.”
