On Thursday, Prince Harry offered an apology to Canada for donning a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during a World Series game where the Dodgers faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it,” Harry told Canadian broadcaster CTV, referring to the scandal as “hatgate.”

“To be honest, I was under a bit of pressure,” he quipped. “I didn’t have much of a choice. The owner himself invited me to the Dodgers’ box or dugout, so I thought it was only courteous to comply.”

During the interview, he swapped the Dodgers cap for a Blue Jays one, explaining that he opted for the hat to shield his sparsely-haired head from the bright stadium lights.

“You tend to grab any hat within reach,” he said with a chuckle. “For Games 5, 6, and 7, I was cheering for the Blue Jays all the way. Now that I’ve confessed, returning to Los Angeles might be tricky. I sincerely apologize to the Canadian public.”

Prince Harry has a history in Canada, a nation that shares King Charles III as its monarch.

Though the Dodgers trailed the Blue Jays for most of Game 7, they earned a 5-4 victory after 11 innings last week. This led to the Dodgers’ second World Series win in a row, making them the first team to win consecutive titles since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000.

“Devastated that the Blue Jays lost, but go Jays,” Harry added.
