SAVANNAH, Ga. — Expect mild and humid weather to persist over the next day, with a chance of isolated storms before a significant temperature drop ushers in the new week.

On Saturday, scattered showers and a few storms moved through, particularly affecting southwestern areas. One storm brought winds reaching 40 mph and small hail, while the majority of the region experienced only brief showers.

Showers and Storms Possible

Saturday night will remain mild and muggy, with temperatures falling into the 60s and a 20% chance of passing showers.

Sunday marks the last warm spell before a potent cold front arrives. The day will be breezy, with wind gusts between 20 and 25 mph. Isolated showers and storms may occur, with some potentially becoming strong to severe. These storms could produce straight-line winds exceeding 40 mph and small hail.

Big Cooldown

By Sunday night, rain will clear, making way for a focus on dropping temperatures. Monday promises to be chilly and breezy, starting with lows in the 40s and wind chills in the 30s. Highs will reach only the 50s, and strong winds, gusting up to 25 mph, will make it feel even colder.

Tuesday morning will have the possibility of being record cold, with lows plunging below freezing for most areas along and west of I-95. The daily record low at SAV is 31°, and the forecast low for Tuesday morning is 30°. Most inland areas will see 20s for lows and the entire area will likely have wind chills in the 20s. Tuesday itself will be chilly with another day of highs in the 50s. Wednesday morning likely brings another widespread frost and freeze, especially west of I-95.

Remember the 4 P’s, including people, plants, pipes and pets. Check on neighbors and be sure you have adequate heating indoors. Be sure to wear multiple layers outdoors during the morning hours. Cover up delicate plants or bring them inside so they do not suffer damage. Exposed outdoor pipes should be wrapped, but this will not be a pipe-bursting freeze for indoor plumbing. Last but not least, bring pets inside or provide extra warmth in a shelter and try to limit moisture and exposure to wind.

Warming Up

A warming trend is expected for the middle to end of the week, with Wednesday’s highs reaching the 60s. Temperatures moderate closer to seasonal normals by the end of the week, with mornings in the 40s and afternoons in the 70s under plenty of sunshine.
