The search for a seasoned hunter from Ohio has now reached its fifth day, according to authorities. Efforts are underway to locate Devon Dobek, 51, who was last seen in the Mount Hood National Forest, located near Sandy, Oregon, approximately 28 miles east of Portland.

In a Facebook update, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dobek, an experienced outdoorsman, failed to return to his home in Hubbard, Ohio, after his trip to Oregon. The search operation has drawn about 50 volunteers and involves several agencies, including Portland Mountain Rescue.

Adding to the complexity of the search, weather conditions have shifted back to rain. However, the search team has been bolstered by an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter, alongside drones equipped with thermal imaging technology, to aid in the extensive efforts to find Dobek.

“Despite the return of rainy conditions, an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter was able to assist in the search, along with continued drone operations equipped with thermal imaging capabilities,” the office wrote.

They went on to add that they will focus on parts of the forest that were burned in the 2020 wildfires.

“The area is full of fallen trees, making navigation extremely challenging,” they wrote. “Crews plan to continue searching into the night hours.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line by phone at 503-723-4949, or submitting a tip online on their website.
