Vesia and his wife expressed their gratitude to the Dodgers, their supporters, and the medical team for their compassion and assistance during this difficult time.

LOS ANGELES — On Friday, Alex Vesia, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his wife Kayla shared the heartbreaking news of their child’s passing.

“Our precious daughter ascended to heaven on Sunday, October 26th,” the couple shared on social media. “The pain we feel is indescribable, but we treasure every moment we spent with her and hold her dearly in our hearts.”

Their daughter was named Sterling Sol Vesia. Accompanying the announcement was a poignant black-and-white photograph showing their hands gently holding their daughter’s.

In their message, they extended their heartfelt appreciation to the Dodgers community, the fans, and the medical professionals who provided support and care for Sterling and Kayla.

“Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” the statement said. “Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”

The announcement comes a week after the team won the World Series in seven games against the Toronto Blue Jays. It was the Dodgers’ second straight World Series championship.

Ahead of the Dodgers’ appearance in Game 1, the team announced Vesia would be absent due to a “deeply personal family matter” but no other information was given.

Dodgers relievers wore Vesia’s No. 51 on their caps in a tribute to their absent teammate and fans wore his jersey in support. Blue Jays relievers joined them in the tribute for Game 6.

Vesia went 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 68 regular-season games. He is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in seven postseason appearances.
