As Thanksgiving approaches, the anticipation of festive meals grows, leading to a surge in grocery shopping as consumers prepare for the holiday feast.

Each year, the cost of Thanksgiving dinners can fluctuate, influencing family choices. In the face of inflation, retailers like Aldi, Walmart, and Target are stepping up with affordable Thanksgiving meal options.

This year, Aldi is promoting its most economical Thanksgiving meal package in recent history. The package includes a turkey and ingredients for nine classic side dishes, all priced at under $4 per person, or around $40 to feed a group of ten.

Scott Patton, Aldi U.S.’s chief commercial officer, emphasized the retailer’s commitment to affordable pricing, particularly during the festive season. “Our dedication to value is especially evident during the holidays,” he remarked. “We aim to ensure families don’t have to compromise to enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal.”

Meanwhile, Target has rolled out a holiday meal deal for less than $20 for a family of four, breaking down to under $5 per person.

“Our under-$20 Thanksgiving meal is priced even lower than last year’s, but we’re not stopping there,” said Lisa Roath, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of food, essentials and beauty. “We also have new seasonal sides, stylish table décor, festive apparel and beautiful greenery and florals.”

Are the meals cheaper as compared to last year?

Examining if the Thanksgiving meal prices are cheaper this year than in 2024, there are some slight differences.

For the holiday(s) last year, Walmart offered a 29-item meal that served eight people for less than $7 a person. Aldi and Walmart’s previous bundle added up to $47, which is $7 more than this year’s offer.

As for Amazon, they are offering a full meal and all the fixings for $25, almost equal to the same deal from a year ago.
