In a striking display of reckless driving, two individuals found themselves in trouble with the law on Walt Disney World property due to excessive speeding, as reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. These incidents occurred just days apart, highlighting the need for vigilance even in the most magical of places.

The first of these incidents involved Layton North Browning Jaynes, a 32-year-old driver who was pulled over on October 1st. Jaynes was caught driving a light blue Porsche 911 at a staggering speed of 117 mph along Epcot Center Drive, where the speed limit is 50 mph. The officer on duty used a laser device to confirm this dangerous speed, which was initially estimated during routine traffic enforcement.

Upon being stopped, Jaynes claimed he believed his speed was closer to 80 mph and expressed ignorance of Florida’s stringent “Super Speeder” law, according to the arrest affidavit. This law is designed to crack down on excessive speeding, which can pose significant safety risks to all road users.

As a result of his actions, Jaynes faced several charges, including dangerous and excessive speeding, having an expired tag, and failing to update his address on his driver’s license. He was subsequently taken to the Orange County Jail without incident, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic laws.

Jaynes was cited for dangerous, excessive speeding, expired tag, and failure to update his address on his driver’s license. He was taken to the Orange County Jail without incident.

Oct. 7, Ryan Daniel Schulz, 31, was arrested for speeding on the same stretch of road and by the same deputy involved in the previous incident.

According to an arrest affidavit, Schulz was driving a black Yamaha MT-10 motorcycle at 144 mph in the 50 mph zone, with the deputy again using a laser and radar to confirm the speed. Schulz said he was running late to work and was unaware of the “Super Speeder” law.

Schulz was cited for dangerous, excessive speeding and failure to update his address on his driver’s license, and was transported to jail without incident.

Since July 1, deputies in Orange County have taken more than 100 drivers into custody who were caught going 50+ miles an hour over the speed limit or over 100 mph.
