Illinois officials are currently delving into the circumstances surrounding a fatal incident where a woman allegedly struck a pedestrian while broadcasting live on social media.

The tragic event occurred on November 3 in Zion, involving a 43-year-old driver who collided with Darren Lucas, aged 59. Unfortunately, Lucas succumbed to his injuries. The driver, who promptly contacted emergency services, remained at the location and cooperated with law enforcement, as reported by WFLD.

Authorities in Zion have been made aware of a video indicating the driver may have been streaming live on TikTok at the time of the accident. The footage captures the woman driving, followed by a sudden loud impact, after which she exclaims, “F**k, f**k, f**k … I just hit somebody.”

A child’s voice is also heard questioning the situation before the livestream abruptly cuts off.

@live.catch.up WHOA!!! Teatyme went live Monday while driving and HIT a pedestrian?! There are more rumors but for now we are hoping it’s not true & everyone is going to be okay. GET OFF YOUR PHONES WHILE DRIVING PEOPLE!!!! #teatyme #LiveCatchUp #tiktoklive #crash ♬ original sound – Live Catch Ups

As reported by the Lake & McHenry County Scanner, investigators currently do not suspect the involvement of drugs or alcohol in this tragic crash.

The TikTok user, formerly known as Tea_Tyme_3, privated the account and changed the handle. However, The Root reported that the woman continued to post content. That content included letting her followers know that she would not be hosting livestreams, as “my mind isn’t in full capacity.”

At some point, the woman allegedly also took to TikTok to ask for CashApp donations — sparking outrage amongst her followers.

“My Cash App up there if y’all wanna support while I’m on mental leave,” she reportedly said. “I will be OK. I am taking things one day at a time. I’m good, you guys.”

The Lake & McHenry County Scanner reported that Lucas was killed across the street from his job. An autopsy confirmed he died of blunt force trauma.

Criminal charges have not been announced in this case. However, Zion police’s investigation is ongoing and laboratory results are pending.
