In a significant legal development, President Trump has approached the Supreme Court to overturn a jury verdict that found him responsible for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in the mid-1990s. This request was officially submitted by Trump’s personal legal team on Monday, marking a pivotal moment as this prolonged legal battle ascends to the highest court in the nation.

E. Jean Carroll, who has pursued legal action against Trump on two occasions, has secured a total of $88.3 million in damages through these trials. This latest petition is the first time the dispute has been presented before the Supreme Court justices, adding a new chapter to this high-profile case.

The initial jury, convened in 2023, concluded that Trump was liable for sexually assaulting Carroll in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store during the mid-1990s. Furthermore, the jury determined that Trump had defamed Carroll by publicly denying her allegations at the time she made them, which coincided with his first term as President. Consequently, Trump was ordered to compensate Carroll with $5 million in damages.
