Detectives have charged the alleged gunman in the murder of Sydney plumber John Versace in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

In a tragic incident, 23-year-old Versace was fatally shot outside his family’s residence in Condell Park on May 19. He succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries, leaving the community in shock.

This morning at approximately 9 a.m., authorities apprehended a 21-year-old man in Silverwater, charging him with Versace’s murder. The suspect has been denied bail and is set to appear in Burwood Local Court later today.

Investigators will assert that the young man was responsible for the fatal shooting. However, police suspect that Versace was an unintended target, as he reportedly had no connections to criminal activities.

Police will allege the man was the gunman in the shooting murder of Versace.

Police believe it was a case of mistaken identity, with Versace having no criminal links.

Last week, two men were charged over their alleged involvement in the murder and remain before the courts.

A 43-year-old was arrested in Casula and a 19-year-old was arrested in Bankstown last Wednesday.

Police will allege those two men were involved in driving and moving the cars involved in the murder.
