In a significant legal development, Kaniel Jeremy Paul Edwards, a 22-year-old resident of Ocala, has been formally indicted by an Alachua County Grand Jury. The charges against him include first-degree murder, attempted murder, and the illegal carrying of a concealed weapon. These charges stem from a tragic shooting that took place on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the T.B. McPherson Center in Gainesville, Florida, which resulted in the untimely death of 20-year-old Ontaria Baisden.

Authorities apprehended Edwards in August, alongside two other individuals from Ocala. The arrests were linked to the violent incident that unfolded following an Easter Egg hunt at T.B. McPherson Park on the aforementioned date. Although the arrest documents remain sealed, the indictment reveals that Edwards faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder for the fatal shooting of Ontaria Nevaeh Baisden. Additionally, he is accused of firing at the other defendants, Gabriel Frazier and Jarrett Jones Jr.

The indictment further alleges that Edwards attempted to commit first-degree murder against “Gabriel Frazier or Jarrett Jones Jr., or any other individual associated with them.” Moreover, he is charged with unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm, compounding the gravity of the legal case against him.

A motion for pre-trial detention indicates that the Easter Sunday altercation resulted in three people being shot at the park. Investigations have pointed towards the involvement of three shooters, suggesting that the incident was linked to gang activity. The case continues to unfold as the community grapples with the disturbing events that marred the holiday celebration.

A motion for pre-trial detention for Edwards states that three people were shot at the park on Easter Sunday, and the investigation determined that three shooters were involved and the incident was gang-related.

Following the Grand Jury indictment, Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered Edwards held without bail until trial on the homicide and attempted homicide charges and set bail at $10,000 on the concealed firearm charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
