In Oregon, a man is accused of setting off an explosive at an apartment after discovering his former girlfriend was involved with someone else.

Legal documents indicate that 37-year-old Samuel Christian Lund is confronting numerous charges. These include five counts of attempted murder, four counts of illegal weapon use, two counts of unlawfully making a destructive device, as well as individual charges of first-degree arson and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The alleged attack took place on October 6 at an apartment located in the 200 block of North 10th Street in Cornelius, a town just west of Portland. According to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by local ABC affiliate KATU, a resident of the apartment recounted opening his door at approximately 4 a.m. to find a man clad in black. After closing the door, he heard a distinct “tink, tink, tink” noise, which was quickly followed by an explosion that scattered debris. Gunfire was also reported as striking the door, as stated in the affidavit.

Witnesses in the neighborhood reported seeing the suspect leave the area on an electric bike. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.

A woman informed the police that Lund, her ex-boyfriend, had been sending her menacing text messages the previous day after finding out about her new relationship.

The messages reportedly said “you f—ing turn around and spit in my face…I’m coming for you…I know where you’re at right now…you might as well just f—ing come outside…I’ll be there shortly.”

The woman also said Lund owned an e-bike.

When cops confronted Lund, he reportedly admitted to sending the messages but claimed he didn’t detonate the bomb. However, he did say he had experience with explosives and had a bomb in his backpack in his garage, the affidavit reportedly said.

Lund is currently in the Washington County Jail without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 17.

The defendant previously served five years in prison for stabbing someone outside a grocery store in 2018, per KATU.
