BCKOnline: You’ve mentioned your rise to prominence began with your commentary during the 2024 campaign. When did you first realize your voice could have a significant impact on others?

Knowa De Baraso: While the 2024 campaign played a role, I think my influence largely stems from discussing politics and social issues from an influencer’s perspective. I realized my voice had power when people told me they registered to vote because of me or decided to donate to their child’s school. That feedback was incredibly meaningful.

BCKOnline: At only 14, you’re the host of the podcast “Now You Know with Knowa De Baraso.” Why did you choose podcasting over focusing solely on social media content?

Knowa De Baraso: Absolutely! Podcasting offers a richer platform compared to just creating viral social media clips, which I used to do before starting my podcast. It allows me to delve into a wide range of issues that are too complex to cover in a 60-second clip or even a brief segment on MSNBC.

BCKOnline: You’re balancing school (you’ve said you’re homeschooled) with a growing public role. What’s harder: staying on top of schoolwork or managing your brand and message?

Knowa De Baraso: I don’t think of schoolwork much. What I do constantly think about is media narratives about me. I think constantly about how the media tries to paint me in a light they want to see me in. I think about my brand so much more than any kind of schoolwork.

BCKOnline: How do you handle criticism or negative comments? Especially when you’re speaking on serious topics to big audiences, how do you stay grounded?

Knowa De Baraso: Honestly, I’ve gotten so much hate, so many threats, and so much criticism it simply doesn’t matter anymore. What does bother me is false media narrative, and I hope to clear the narrative on my iHeart podcast, Now You Know with Knowa De Baraso.

BCKOnline: You’ve mentioned that you don’t want your podcast to be “100% politics” but rather a mix of politics and pop culture. Why is that blend important to you?

Knowa De Baraso: That mix is so important, because I’d be lying to myself, and you, when I say politics is 100% fun all the time. I’m a public figure, and often times I’m tied into these pop culture issues by default, so by giving my comment on my podcast or on my social media (@KnowaDeBaraso) I’m clearing a narrative. It’s rare someone can do a BCK Online interview and have seen Kamala Harris in the same month. I appreciate my reach, and I’ll use it in the best way possible always.

BCKOnline: You’re part of the youngest generation often talked about in major media. What’s one thing adults tend to misunderstand about Gen Z or Gen Alpha when it comes to politics and culture?

Knowa De Baraso: Adults seem to think Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha care about them participating in TikTok trends. Gen-Alpha just wants to see you fight back against Trump so their friend with a foreign background doesn’t get deported.

BCKOnline: If someone said, “Why should a 14-year-old talk about policy or politics?” How would you respond?

Knowa De Baraso: I’ll respond by saying why should someone your age care about it? By the time the 14-year-olds are suffering from bad policy, you’ll likely be dead. So people that age should care even more than they do.

BCKOnline: In four years, you’ll be 18. Where do you see your podcast or influencer journey going by then?

Knowa De Baraso: I’m lucky enough to have built a name that will last that long, and long after. I see this, but 10 times more. We’ll see, I can’t predict the future.

BCKOnline: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to another young person who sees you and thinks, “I want to do what he’s doing,” especially someone passionate about culture, media, or politics?

Knowa De Baraso: Just do it. I’ve been asked this and it makes me so happy each time—I say just do it.

BCKOnline: You’ve interviewed (or discussed) a variety of topics and guests on your show. Which episode or conversation has meant the most to you so far, and why?

Knowa De Baraso: Definitely conversations about influencer endorsements in politics. It gets heated, but I love it and am passionate about it.

BCKOnline: You recently celebrated your birthday. What did you do for your special day?

Knowa De Baraso: I had fun, and I appreciate you remembering that. This was a pleasure, thank you!
