Nothing to See Here, Just a Democrat Senator's Staffer Posing As a Lawyer to Help Free an Illegal Alien

In a recent twist on the ongoing saga of immigration policy controversies, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disclosed on Wednesday that a member of Illinois Democrat Senator Tammy Duckworth’s team allegedly posed as an immigration lawyer. This bold move was part of an attempt to secure the release of an undocumented immigrant who not only has been deported to Mexico on four separate occasions but also has a conviction for driving under the influence.

A letter addressed to Senator Duckworth’s office, which Fox News exclusively reported, reveals that ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons stated the staff member claimed to be the legal representative for the 40-year-old undocumented individual, Jose Ismeal Ayuzo Sandoval, in conversations with federal agents.

The correspondence further details that the staffer managed to gain entry into an ICE facility located in St. Louis, Illinois, on October 29. However, this incident is just the beginning of the unfolding drama.

According to a letter sent Wednesday to Duckworth’s office, as exclusively reported by Fox News, ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Acting Director Todd Lyons said the staffer told federal agents he was the attorney of the illegal, 40-year-old Jose Ismeal Ayuzo Sandoval.

The letter says the staffer entered an ICE facility in St. Louis, Illinois, on Oct. 29:

At approximately 1:29 p.m., an individual identified as Edward York, who, according to publicly available information, is employed as a Constituent Outreach Coordinator for your Senate office, entered the field office lobby, and in a discussion with a federal officer, claimed to be Mr. Ayuzo’s attorney. Mr. York demanded to speak with his “client.”

It gets worse.

While at the field office, York was not only allowed to meet with Ayuzo, but he also secured the illegal alien’s signature on a G-28 form — an official document that authorizes an attorney to represent a client in immigration matters, and also allows the attorney to receive official correspondence and communicate with government agencies on behalf of the client.

After obtaining a release order, however, the staffer attempted to file the form without Sandoval’s signature, despite having completed the G-28 form in person, according to the letter.

Also, according to the letter:

Four days later, a Suarez Law Office in Collinsville, Illinois filed a G-28 electronically that did not have Mr. Ayuzo’s signature, even though Mr. York, who claimed to work for the law firm, had already obtained a signed form. It appears as if Mr. York may have collaborated with the firm to cover his misrepresentation.

Ya think?

The salient question, of course, is whether the staffer acted on his own or was instructed by Duckworth to try to pull off the stunt (wink-wink). I mean, you know how eager Democrats are to free illegals.

Moreover, Duckworth has consistently defended illegal aliens, primarily by ripping federal immigration enforcement and calling for oversight of law enforcement tactics against illegals. Clearly, Duckworth’s goal — and also the goal of most, if not all Democrat members of Congress — is to shield as many illegal aliens from capture and deportation as they can get away with.
