EUSTIS, Fla. – Residents living on Creek Run Lane in Eustis experienced a homecoming of sorts on Thursday evening, as emergency road repairs were completed in a remarkable six-day span. This milestone marks a hopeful chapter in the city’s ongoing recovery following last month’s severe flooding.

Fire Chief Michael Swanson had the honor of announcing the road’s reopening at 5 p.m., capping off an intense, around-the-clock effort that condensed a typically four-month-long project into just under a week.

“I’m proud to announce that this road is now open, both lanes!” Swanson proclaimed, as the neighborhood erupted into a chorus of honking horns and cheers, celebrating their newfound access.

The need for this swift action arose when floodwaters wreaked havoc on a culvert beneath the road, severing vehicular access to Creek Run Lane. Residents endured a two-week period without the ability to drive to their homes, making the completion of repairs all the more significant.

In a display of community and contractor collaboration, multiple teams worked tirelessly, day and night, to bring the neighborhood back to life. The final touch came Thursday afternoon when the road was paved, ensuring a safe and smooth passage for those eager to return to normalcy.

While this project’s completion marks a victory for Creek Run Lane residents, work continues elsewhere in Eustis. City officials are now turning their attention to other roads damaged during last month’s floods as recovery efforts continue throughout the community.
