RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (AP) — The Richmond Hill Wildcats are gearing up to make a significant impact in the GHSA Class AAAAAA state playoffs this season.

After a surprising absence from the playoffs last year, Richmond Hill has made a strong comeback, securing a spot in the postseason. The Wildcats concluded the regular season with a 6-4 record and achieved a 2-3 standing in what is considered the most challenging region in the state.

In the opening round, Richmond Hill will face off against the formidable Buford team. Buford boasts an undefeated record and holds the second spot in the Class AAAAAA rankings, in addition to being ranked ninth nationally.

The match is set to take place in Buford’s state-of-the-art, $62 million stadium. Despite the daunting challenge, the Wildcats are prepared and eager to compete.

“This is an exciting time of year,” remarked Richmond Hill head coach Matt Lazotte. “Our team is ready. We believed we had playoff potential last year. Overcoming the challenges we’ve faced this season to reach the playoffs is truly special.”

Added Richmond Hill wide receiver Eli Grant, “I mean, it feels great. It just gives us a little more to work for, a little more preparation. This just makes us better.”

Richmond Hill and Buford play Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
