In Rosharon, Texas, a dramatic turn of events unfolded as former NBA player Patrick Beverley found himself entangled in legal troubles. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the 37-year-old athlete was taken into custody early Friday, facing a felony assault charge related to an incident described by authorities as “family violence.”

Beverley’s bail has been set at $40,000, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations. However, the former basketball star has taken to social media to urge the public to approach the situation with caution, warning against taking everything seen online at face value.

In a bid to shed more light on the circumstances, Beverley shared an unsigned statement on his social media accounts. The statement detailed a concerning discovery: Beverley unexpectedly found his younger sister, a minor, in the company of an 18-year-old man. It expressed that Beverley’s reaction was driven by a natural brotherly protectiveness.

The statement further contends that the events following this discovery might not have unfolded as initially portrayed. Beverley and his representatives have expressed eagerness to clarify the situation in court, suggesting that the narrative may not be as straightforward as it appears.

“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court,” the statement said.

Beverley last played in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024. He previously was with the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Clippers and several other teams over his 12-year career.
