WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A fire broke out on Saturday evening, injuring three individuals, including a deputy from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Hernando County Fire Rescue received a call around 7:30 p.m. about a house ablaze on the 11000 block of Richmond Street in Weeki Wachee.

Reports initially suggested that the home’s occupants were trapped inside. Before firefighters arrived, a nearby sheriff’s deputy rushed to the scene and helped rescue the two residents from the burning structure.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames engulfing the entire house. They quickly worked to extinguish the fire while providing medical attention to the injured individuals.

Several explosions, including those from propane tanks, occurred during the incident, complicating the firefighting efforts.

HCFR said responders were able to get the flames under control in about 50 minutes.

One of the home’s occupants was taken to a nearby hospital, where they remain in stable condition. The other occupant appeared to be in serious condition and was airlifted to a burn center.

The HCSO deputy who helped rescue the occupants was also hospitalized for smoke inhalation but is expected to make a full recovery.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
