STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — OJ Arnold dazzled with 267 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Camden Brown matched a program record with three touchdown catches, leading Georgia Southern to a thrilling 45-40 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday night.
Arnold’s performance included a spectacular 41-yard touchdown reception and a 73-yard touchdown pass to Brown. The versatile 5-foot-9, 195-pound senior made history as the first player from Georgia Southern to score by rushing, receiving, and passing in a single game. He also became the first to rush over 200 yards since Logan Wright’s 214-yard feat against Arkansas State on October 2, 2021.
Under the guidance of fourth-year coach Clay Helton, Georgia Southern (5-5, 3-3 Sun Belt Conference) amassed 653 total yards, marking the highest output during his tenure.
Coastal Carolina (6-4, 5-2) showcased their own trickery with wide receivers Bryson Graves and Robby Washington each throwing touchdown passes. Graves pulled off an impressive 75-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Tucker after catching a lateral on the right during the first quarter. Meanwhile, Washington executed a jet sweep to the left before lofting a pass to Karmello English, reducing their deficit to 35-33 following a missed 2-point conversion early in the second quarter.
Shortly thereafter, Arnold connected with Brown on a double-pass play, with Brown accumulating 133 receiving yards, extending Georgia Southern’s lead to two scores.
JC French IV was 22-of-33 passing for 264 yards and threw two touchdowns and an interception for Georgia Southern.
