An altercation over chickens took a violent turn outside a pub in Port St. Lucie, leading to gunshots ringing out in the early hours.

In Port St. Lucie, Florida, a heated debate about chickens and their egg-laying habits spiraled into gunfire outside a local bar, according to police reports.

Authorities responded to a call from Harper’s Pub around 2:48 a.m. on November 4. Peter Riera, aged 44, had contacted 911, claiming he was being pursued after a robbery attempt. Upon arrival, officers discovered Riera in possession of a loaded firearm.

Three additional individuals—two men and a woman—were also taken into custody at the scene. Police reports indicate that Riera discharged his gun four times as the trio attempted to flee, yet fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Witnesses recounted that the group had engaged in conversation with Riera, whom they had just met and nicknamed “Farmer Pete.” The discussion, centered on chickens and egg production, grew tense. One witness recalled Riera becoming increasingly irritated, accusing them of attempting to deceive him, which culminated in Riera brandishing a weapon.

Investigators found four spent shell casings in the parking lot. Riera was arrested and faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and other offenses.
