AEW's expanded Blood & Guts spectacle left one burning question

The electrifying event that was Blood & Guts has sparked a compelling debate in the wrestling community—should AEW’s hallmark event, Dynamite, transition into a full-fledged pay-per-view?

Considering the intense drama, thrilling violence, and masterful storytelling that unfolded within the two-ringed cage matches on Wednesday, it’s tempting to agree. The atmosphere undoubtedly matched that of a pay-per-view, especially with the inclusion of the gripping Falls Count Anywhere bout featuring AEW Men’s World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page squaring off against Powerhouse Hobbs.

Yet, from my perspective, the two-and-a-half-hour spectacle was remarkably engaging and well-paced, leaving me satisfied without the need for an additional match or an extended three-hour runtime. It was astonishing to witness such a grand display on free television, particularly as WWE gears up to present its more refined WarGames edition at Survivor Series later this month as a premium live event. They certainly have their work cut out for them to reach the high standard set by AEW, especially after witnessing moments like Darby Allin’s dramatic dive off the stage onto a flaming table.

But I honestly would have been good with one more match and a three-hour show. The two-and-a-half hours seemed to fly by. It felt hard to fathom we were getting this spectacle on free TV when, later this month, WWE will roll out its more sanitized WarGames version at Survivor Series as a premium live event. They have a high bar to meet. (Darby Allin got thrown off the stage onto a flaming table.)
