Bethenny Frankel recently opened up about what she claims was the reaction of Trevor Engelson, Meghan Markle‘s former husband, upon discovering Meghan was dating Prince Harry.
The 55-year-old former star of Real Housewives had a brief relationship with Trevor in 2016, coinciding with the year Meghan and Harry’s romance began to make headlines. On her appearance on “The Toast” podcast with Claudia Oshry, Bethenny shared her memory of the interaction.
“He mentioned his ex was an actress on a show called Suits. At the time, I wasn’t familiar with the show or her,” Bethenny recounted during the podcast episode, which aired on Monday, November 17.
She continued, “A few months later, I saw pictures circulating about Harry’s new romance, and I texted Trevor, asking, ‘Is this your ex?’ His reply was simply, ‘Yup.’”
Curious about Meghan’s future, Bethenny inquired, “Do you think she’s going to go all the way?”
He reportedly replied, “Oh, she’ll close.”
“I don’t want to get into more about that but he was like, ‘She’ll close,’” Bethenny recalled.
For context, Meghan and Trevor began dating in 2004 and married in Jamaica in August 2011. They separated about 18 months later and finalized their divorce in March 2014, citing irreconcilable differences. Reports noted Meghan returned her wedding ring to Trevor after deciding their marriage was over.
After her split from Trevor, Meghan dated Canadian chef Cory Vitiello before being introduced to Prince Harry by mutual friend Misha Nonoo in May 2016. Today, the Sussexes have two children and live in Montecito.
Bethenny also addressed the so-called “photo-gate” involving photos of Meghan and Harry at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party. The images were reportedly deleted at the couple’s request. “Meghan is trying to be so many different things,” Bethenny said, suggesting the couple didn’t want the public to see them “hobnobbing with the Kardashians.”
Bethenny has been openly critical of Meghan in the past. Following the Sussexes’ infamous Oprah interview, she tweeted: “Cry me a river … the plight of being a game show host, fairly unknown actress, to suffering in a palace, w tiaras & 7 figure weddings for TWO WHOLE YEARS to being a household name with Oprah Winfrey on speed dial.”
