Since its inception, Selling Sunset has spotlighted the unique relationship between Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet, forming a central narrative in the real estate-focused series. Their connection was serendipitous, having first met during a house-hunting expedition.
“Romain came to Los Angeles to explore real estate opportunities, and I was his agent,” Fitzgerald shared with Women’s Health in August 2020. “We clicked immediately. His modeling agency also recommended he move here due to the abundance of bookings in the L.A. area.”
Despite a significant age gap—Bonnet is 12 years younger—this did not hinder their blossoming romance, which rapidly intensified.
The couple quietly entered into a civil union in March 2018, mere months before Selling Sunset began filming. By August 2020, Us Weekly confirmed they had already wed prior to Bonnet’s on-screen proposal at the end of the first season and before their televised wedding in the second season. Nonetheless, their representative noted that few were aware of their early marriage.
“They opted to keep this milestone private from friends and family as they were assessing the longevity of their relationship,” the couple’s rep explained to Us. “To them, it wasn’t until their ceremony filmed for the show that they considered themselves truly married.”
By December 2022, the pair were still on their fertility journey.
“We did a round of embryo freezing, it didn’t work,” Fitzgerald exclusively told Us at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. “But I think on [Selling Sunset] season 6, you’ll see why, what happened. We didn’t get to finish that one, so now we’re just kind of just trying naturally.”
The real estate agent also gushed about what an “amazing dad” her partner will make. “He’s so loving and responsible and thoughtful, so he’s going to be great with a kid,” she said.
