Authorities have apprehended a man in connection with the tragic death of a 14-year-old girl from Illinois who went missing on Thursday and was found dead just hours later.
The victim, identified as Kylie Toberman, was reported missing from her home in Vandalia, only to be discovered deceased in an RV situated behind the property. According to KSDK, Arnold Rivera Jr., a 43-year-old relative residing in the RV, allegedly assaulted and strangled Toberman with jumper cables before concealing her body in a tote.
At the time of this horrific incident, Toberman was living with her adoptive mother and two sisters.
“She didn’t deserve this,” Toberman’s biological mother expressed in an interview with KSDK, reflecting the family’s anguish and devastation.
In a troubling revelation, KTVI reported that Rivera faced charges in 2000 in Macon County for burglary and the sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 9 and 16. However, those charges were dismissed the following year.
In this case, Rivera is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and concealing a homicidal death. He remains jailed without bond, as his arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
