A Texas grand jury has brought forward an indictment against a 57-year-old man who authorities claim admitted to the fatal shooting of actor Jonathon Joss outside his residence in San Antonio this past June.

In Washington, the news broke that the neighbor of Jonathon Joss, known for his role in “King of the Hill,” has been officially charged in connection with the actor’s death.

On Monday, November 17, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez faced indictment from a grand jury. His arrest dates back to June, following the tragic incident that led to Joss’s death near his Texas home.

According to police reports, Alvarez confessed to the crime on the evening it occurred. As officers were detaining him, Alvarez reportedly stated, “I shot him,” confirming his involvement in the shooting.

The incident unfolded on June 1, around 7 p.m., when police responded to a call about an ongoing shooting at a residence in south San Antonio. Upon arrival, officers discovered the actor, aged 59, critically injured near the street.

“The officers attempted life saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS pronounced the victim deceased,” San Antonio police said in a statement.

Joss’ death was confirmed by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales.

“He was murdered,” de Gonzales told The Associated Press in a text. The two were married earlier this year on Valentine’s Day.

In a statement, de Gonzales said that before the shooting, he and Joss were checking mail at Joss’ home, which had been heavily damaged during a January fire that claimed the lives of their three dogs. A man approached the two and threatened them with a gun, de Gonzales said.

“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” de Gonzales said in a statement.

Joss, who grew up in San Antonio, was best known as the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American character on the popular “King of the Hill” animated series that ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2008. A reboot of the show began in August.

Joss also had a recurring role on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” playing Chief Ken Hotate. He appeared in two episodes of the series “Tulsa King” in 2022.
