Nation Bids Farewell: Honoring Former Vice President Dick Cheney in Memorial Service

The Washington National Cathedral will host the funeral service for former Vice President Dick Cheney this Thursday, drawing a significant gathering of dignitaries and political figures. This solemn event, scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. EST, will see the participation of former Presidents Joe Biden and George W. Bush, the latter of whom is expected to deliver a tribute to Cheney.

While former President Bill Clinton will miss the service due to prior commitments in Arkansas, notable is the absence of an invitation extended to former President Donald Trump, as reported by CBS News.

Cheney, who passed away on November 4th at the age of 84, faced complications arising from pneumonia, alongside cardiac and vascular disease. His illustrious career included serving as vice president from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Before this, Cheney held various key positions, including chief of staff for President Gerald Ford, a congressional representative from Wyoming, and secretary of Defense.

Cheney died Nov. 4 due to complications of pneumonia, cardiac and vascular disease. He was 84. Before his term as vice president under Bush from 2001 to 2009, he served as chief of staff under President Gerald Ford, a representative from Wyoming and secretary of Defense.

Many consider Cheney to be the key architect of the U.S. response to the Sept. 11 terror attacks and the driving force behind the invasion of Iraq. A lifelong Republican, he nonetheless declared his support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in last year’s election.

Cheney leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Lynne, daughters Mary Cheney and former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, as well as seven grandchildren.
