Bartow Man Faces Justice: Conviction in Shocking Assault on Deputy U.S. Marshal

BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) — A jury has convicted a man from Bartow for attacking a Deputy U.S. Marshal, as announced by U.S. Attorney Greg Kehoe on Friday.

Earlier this year, authorities were on the hunt for 36-year-old Myles Strickland due to an outstanding arrest warrant in Polk County. Upon locating him in Lee County, Strickland attempted to escape on foot, according to Kehoe.

During the pursuit, Strickland was clutching a jacket, which officers later discovered concealed a firearm. At one moment, he paused, reached into the jacket, and prepared the gun to potentially shoot at the officers, Kehoe explained.

Law enforcement then fired at and struck Strickland, who was treated for his injuries and taken into custody.

On Nov. 21, Kehoe announced that a federal jury found Strickland guilty of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon, using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
