In the heart of Orange City, Florida, a significant meeting looms on the horizon, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. this Friday at City Hall. Mayor Kellie Marks has called this gathering to address rising tensions with City Clerk Kaley Burleson, an issue that has captured the community’s attention.
Recently obtained emails reveal Burleson’s claims of a hostile work environment, allegedly fostered by Mayor Marks. In these messages, Burleson accuses the mayor of publicly criticizing employee performance and retaliating against her for using her entitled paid leave.
In her defense, Mayor Marks has responded via email, asserting that her comments were not meant to offend and that any misunderstanding might stem from a misinterpretation of her tone. She emphasizes that the purpose of the meeting is to scrutinize Burleson’s performance as city clerk, framing it as an effort towards “transparency and accountability.”
Adding a layer of uncertainty to the proceedings, Burleson has informed officials via email that she is currently unwell and may be unable to attend the meeting on Friday night. The outcome of this anticipated meeting remains a point of intrigue for the city’s residents and officials alike.
Burleson also sent an additional email that she is out sick and unsure whether she will be able to attend Friday night’s meeting.
The meeting is expected to draw public comment from supporters on both sides. News 6 will be inside the council chambers to cover all developments.
