A new legislative proposal in Florida could significantly transform the compensation model for high school sports coaches. Filed in the Florida Senate, SB 538, introduced by Senator Corey Simon (R-Tallahassee), seeks to empower coaches by allowing them to negotiate salaries independently of teachers’ unions and establish performance-based incentives.

“This initiative enables coaches to determine their own market value, anchoring pay on merit,” explained Dr. Andrew Ramjit of the Florida Coaches Coalition. “We stand by the principle that effort should be equitably rewarded.”
