Trump on Greene's resignation plans: 'Great news'

On Friday evening, President Trump commented on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) decision to resign from Congress in early January, describing it as “good news for the country.” This statement comes shortly after he withdrew his support for her, potentially intensifying the recent discord between them.

In an interview with ABC News’s Rachel Scott, Trump revealed that Greene, who was once a staunch ally, did not inform him of her resignation plans before making them public.

“I think it’s great news for the country. It’s great,” Trump remarked to ABC News, adding, “I think she should be happy.”

Trump also shared with Scott that he currently has no intention of contacting the Georgia representative but extended his best wishes to her.

In her detailed announcement, Greene addressed her estrangement from Trump, labeling his earlier remarks as “hurtful.” She declared her unwillingness to remain in a toxic relationship, symbolically comparing herself to a “battered wife” hoping for improvement. Greene highlighted her position on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which seemed to escalate the long-standing discord between the two politicians.

“Loyalty should be a two way street,” Greene said.
